It is an annual rite of spring for Mark M. Holeman, Inc., the 2014 Decorators Show House. Once again we are proud to announce our involvement with the country’s longest-running show house event with our contribution to the 53rd Annual St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild Decorators’ Show House and Gardens. The long running charitable event is supported by St. Margaret’s Hospital Guild whose efforts raise funds to support programs and services for Eskenazi Health, a hospital dedicated to caring for everyone, regardless of their financial situation. This year’s house is the Historic Vanderbilt House in the Meridian-Kessler neighborhood. Built in 1925, the house has undergone several renovations and housed several families in its lifetime. With the contributions of the interior and landscape designers of this year’s show the historic home is once again given a much-needed facelift.
Our particular involvement was the renovation of the front foundational landscape. The overgrown and tired landscape needed refreshed and the home deserved a more striking landscape that would welcome visitors and compliment the beautiful architecture of the house. With that in mind we set out to redesign the landscape to remove the plantings that were impeding the sidewalk and create a more open entry with stone paving and steps at the porch. Using the same stone paving a new seating area was created at the intersection of the entry walk and driveway, and decorative stones and plantings create a setting for a piece of garden art. Annual and perennial plantings, both in the beds and in planters, were added to give some much needed color to a rather stark landscape.
We hope you have a chance to stop by and see the garden and the beautiful work that the interior designers did inside the home. It’s a great way to get inspiration for your own home and to
help support a worthy cause. The home is located at 5235 N. Meridian Street. The show runs from Saturday, April 26 – Sunday, May 11. More information is available at www.showhouseindy.org.
