Ron Howe Awarded Lifetime Achievement Award

Mark M. Holeman, Inc. would like to congratulate Ron Howe for a much deserved Lifetime Achievement Award! It is awarded by the Indiana Chapter of American Society of Landscape Architects. The following is the presentation of the award by April Westcott, past president of INASLA:

As a 36-year active member of ASLA, Ron’s knowledge and participation in the Landscape Architecture profession in Indiana is limitless

As a graduate of both Purdue and the Herron School of Art, Ron began his career with Fritz Loonsten, Inc. in 1982 where he worked with Fritz and Claire Bennett.

At Loonsten, Ron did extensive projects for the public and private sectors all over Indiana. (Indiana University and all of its regional locations, Indiana State University, Purdue University and Taylor University to name a few. )

Ron had his own business for a few years before landing at Butler University in 1991. Ron played a major role in the rebranding of Butler from a commuter campus to a residential campus. Designing, managing, and implementation of this new innovative landscape was award winning and enrollment increased as well as the quality of the student experience.

Ron returned to the private sector in 2003. At 82 years old, Ron is a fulltime Landscape Architect at Mark M. Holeman, Inc.

Working with Ron, you witness magic. His drawing skills are exquisite and timeless. The method of madness in which he measures, drafts and renders is an artistic craft that we don’t see very often. When you go to a jobsite with Ron… First of all, Ron Drives. Secondly, you are the lucky recipient of an incredible historical tour of the City. Around every corner is a home that Ron designed, sold or knows is complete history.

Landscape Architecture is his art and the legacy he shares with all of us. My friend, we stand on your shoulders. Thank you for your example, your legacy on the built environment in Indiana, and your impact on the profession of Landscape Architecture.
