A landscape designed by Jason Griffin is featured in a vendor’s 2025 catalog.
The landscape architect's design caught the eye of Nicolock, which specializes in pavers, retaining walls and other outdoor stone features. The company’s 2025 catalog published several photos of the property, which included use of Nicolock products.

A mix of formal and natural stone highlight the raised beds.
The greatest challenge in creating a design for the 2.5-acre property was developing a landscape that connected the home, carriage house, fire-burning water fountain, hot tub, raised beds, an adjacent park and other outdoor amenities, Jason said. The project covered 550 square feet.

The property owner wanted a landscape that was sometimes formal and sometimes a more natural setting, Jason said.
To meet those requirements, Jason chose Nicolock’s Old Town flagstone because of its rustic look that worked well with the formal gardens along the central axis. Grand flagstone was selected for its more random pattern for the hot tub area and path to the park. He said these materials were easier to install than natural stone.

Jason said it was important to listen closely to the property owner. What’s the purpose of the landscape? Is it a play area for children, or where friends, family and co-workers can gather for special events or just a fun time? The property owner also may have ideas for kinds of plants, hardscape and other features. This information is important to keep in mind as the landscape professional develops a plan.
The three-month project included working with electricians and irrigation experts to ensure conduits worked throughout the property to the various features.

For homeowners, it’s critical to work with a landscape architect. The professionals will be mindful of protecting trees and other plants. They will make sure to select trees, shrubs and perennials that will work well in your landscape in terms of winter and summer hardiness, sun or shade requirements, wet or dry soil or other environmental conditions. They will ensure plumbing and electrical work will be up to standard to reduce worries.
